This is our story
From an idea to a reality.
By Oliver and Mo
What do you wanna become when you grow up?
This very question is at this point tattooed into my mind and probably yours too.
And if I’m going to answer it honestly. I have no fu%&ng idea. I just want to create something to be honest with you.
The idea of all of this was planted in my mind long ago. I had always wanted to create. I very early on realised that if I wanted to create something like this I would’ve needed capital to back it. That didn’t exist so I had to create it.
Everybody needs a friend that has the exact same vision and goals as yourself.
With two driven minds and no limit to effort, anything is possible.
“Ay, we should resell shoes” Mo said.
This was the beginning. Reselling is a simple yet hard way to make money. But it worked and it worked good. We sold shoes and we sold em good, in later stages we even resold PlayStation 5s. Then came the mistake. The mistake of trusting a sneaker store with our inventory as a consigned inventory (Consignment is when you give your product to a store or reseller to sell on your behalf). Plus no contract signed.
Sneaker store went bankrupt and cash was gone. That sucked…
Motivation was gone. But only for a little while. We were still in school so we focused on that for a while. But I knew I still wanted to create something and needed capital so I got a job on the side.
School, job, and YouTube education about business can get you a long way.
April of 2024 was the month i got to work. From that month this has been the only thing on my mind. From my room, with my computer from school and a minimal budget to spend I got to work. Mo had much to do in school when the brand was in the beginning stages but as soon as he was done with that it was 110% work ahead.
But where comes the name ukio from?
You may wonder.
Lemme explain
Originally, ukiyo referred to the idea that everything is temporary, like a world that floats and changes constantly.
浮 (uki) = floating
世 (yo) = world
“Floating world”
“Ukiyo” today often carries a calm, almost Zen-like vibe. Appreciating the moment, letting go of stress, and living lightly in a world that’s always changing.
What I mean is that even though life is full of hard times, try to embrace the moment, enjoy beauty, and live freely.
